This week on Saturday Morning

Good week's end my friends! It's Friday, so time to start thinking about a loose plan for tomorrow's show. I have to plan so much in my life, I don't like to plan too much for the radio show (which is obvious if you have ever heard the show). But, I have a few ideas for tomorrow.

First up, it looks like the feature artist will be Imogen Heap and her 2005 album Speak for Yourself.

Second, I just got Yo-Yo Ma's new "Greatest Hits" cd, Appasionato, so I may be inspired to play some of that. I like it.

Third, I have a piece from This American Life I'd like to share. It's a great story, beautifully told. I'll say no more, and see if I'm inspired to play it tomorrow.

Here's the tip of the week: I recently discovered a newer public radio program that I think is the best radio on the air right now. The program is called RadioLab from WNYC in New York City. It is this great montage of a radio program that takes an idea and mixes stories and interviews and sound effects and great editing into an hour long program. And just to keep up interested, they have only produced 5 shows a year over the past two years. You can check them out here. You can also podcast the show from iTunes or from WNYC directly. It is truly great stuff. Smart, innovative, imaginative, and ya just might learn something, too.

Okay, hope to see you all tomorrow. Send a note or call. Let me know what you think of the show. Can't wait to find out what I'm going to play.

peace

This week on Saturday Morning and Coming Attractions

Hey there. Hope the New Year is off to a good start. It's all good my friends. I've gotten the Reggae bug, and want to listen to nothing else lately. So, this week we are featuring Fat Freddy's Drop, some boys from down under who fuse Reggae sounds with jazz, dub, and maybe a little R &B. Hope you can join us on Saturday Morning.

And, coming up on the program....it looks like we are going to have our first live in-studio performance. We will host the Spiral Farm Band on either Saturday January 20 or 27. They will come by to talk about their music and what makes them tick. They will also perform, which is the best part. They are a very tight local blue grass (I think that's a fair description) band of very talented musicians and singers. Whether or not your into this kind of music, I think you will enjoy their sound. They are just good. It's not the usual Saturday Morning fare, but it's good music, so I hope you'll tune in. More later as the details become known.

Still lovin' this weather. My kids are aching for snow. I'm imagining I live in California.

Peace

I'm a slacker!

I know, where's the play lists? Well, I've had a couple of things to do in my day to day life. The play lists for the las three weeks will be up in a few days. Definitely before Saturday.

As current as I try to be on the music scene, I know I'll probably never be truly on the cutting edge. Nevertheless, I just picked up Matisyahu's 2006 release (a little late), "Youth". Wow! If you like Reggie with a political edge (I guess that is Reggie), this is really good. I'm thinking it will be the featured artist/cd this Saturday. Listen in....

Also, this Saturday 11/9/2006 is the big WVEW benefit concert at the Church on Main Street in Brattleboro. Hope to see you there! Come out to support community radio in all it's glory.

Thanks for checking in.

Rain rain go away

Good Tuesday all. Last Saturday's playlist is almost ready for posting. Now to figure out what to play this week.... Actually, my show is a practice in planned spontaneity! I plan ahead and then go with the flow. Seems to work out okay.

Here's this week's music tip: Check out KCRW.com. They have several music programs featuring hand picked music by superb DJs. You can listen to their music programs on demand, and they have a ton of podcasts to check out. Enjoy.

Hope the midweek brings only a small bump. Three days to the weekend...

13 October 2006

14 October 2006

Planning to feature Thievery Corporation tomorrow morning, but things change, of course. Also, have loads of new music to share. Hope you enjoy. Good morning!

12 October 2006

Hello and welcome....

Hi there....welcome to Saturday Morning, or as I like to call it, the Saturday Morning Radio Experience.

I am the host of Saturday Morning. Each week I try to bring you a mix of new, creative, progressive, alternative music from around the planet that celebrates the best of pop, rock, world, Reggie, Jazz, classical...and on and on. I am always looking for unique and alternative audio experiences in the form of music, radio stories and other sound art. In the near future I plan to bring musician in to the studio to play and talk about their music. The show is a work in progress. I hope you will come along for the ride.

My plan for this space is to post the Saturday Morning playlists every week. I'll also toss in other bits of news and trivia from time to time, including upcoming events at the station and local and national music happenings.

Look here too for news and links about radio stories and programs on the web and radio related websites I think you might like. I spend a considerable amount of time each week, usually when I am supposed to be doing my day job, trolling the web looking for new music and other amazing radio productions. As I write I am trying to secure permissions to broadcast some of what I've found on WVEW.

Please let me know what you think of the program, if you have a favorite artist I should know about, or if you are a musician (or know one) and would like to get your (their) music on the air. I am very interested in conneting with local (broadly defined) musicians and bringing them in to talk about their music on the program.

The love the fact that WVEW is all volunteer, self- and community-support and totally here for the people of the community (again, broadly defined once we are streaming).

So, thanks for checking us out, and thanks for listening to WVEW-LP. Please check out our web site www.wvew.org for info on all our great community programs.

We are Brattleboro's community radio station. We give voice to Brattleboro. It's as real as it gets. See you soon....
